Spirited Followers

Spirited Followers is an experimental folk ensemble based in Cardiff, drawing on Appalachian folk, Indian classical, Greek, post-rock dynamics and avant-gard practices. They blend harmonium, Appalachian dulcimer, guitar, bouzouki, cello, synth and drums to make music that is at the same time rooted and exploratory, foregrounding the characteristic textures and timbres of the cultures they draw from, asking how those musical grammars can be stretched without losing their integrity. Flowing between composed material and open, textural improvisation, they show how non-Western music can lead itself to experimentation.
