Tai Haf Heb Drigolyn as The Velvet Underground

Tai Haf Heb Drigolyn is an Aberystwyth-based band consisting of Izak Zjalic, Simon Richards, William P Jones, Liam Potter, Camp Wender, Jack Harwood and Hedydd Ioan. Their debut album ‘Ein Albwm Cyntaf Ni’ Drigolyn was home-recorded using a fusion of Ableton and cassette, with the use of the Tascam Portastudio 424 rendering discrepant textures and lo-fi quality. The album symbolises the joy of a collective DIY music ethos which embraces imperfections and happy accidents, and was shortlisted for last year’s Welsh Music Prize. It was followed by the double A-side Cân Gan Tai Haf Heb Drigolyn / Once I Was an Eel, which was championed by Marc Riley and led to the band’s first live session for BBC 6 Music. Their latest release is a 10-track single called “Goodfellas”.

The Velvet Underground is a rock band formed in New York City by Lou Reed and Welshman John Cale. 60 years ago this year, they released their first single “All Tomorrow’s Parties / I’ll Be Your Mirror” and recorded their debut album The Velvet Underground & Nico. Blending art rock, avant-garde experimentation and raw lyricism, it was released to limited commercial success at the time. Their sound went on to shape all of punk, indie, alternative rock and countless underground music scenes.
