Margaret Glaspy
Blending lyrical, introspective songwriting with a raw rock edge, Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Margaret Glaspy emerged in 2016 with Emotions and Math, a debut that was both intimate and powerful. Over the next few years, she toured heavily, honing her sound over a subsequent EP and 2020 follow-up album, Devotion, which took her in a lusher direction. Glaspy’s third record, 2023’s Echo the Diamond, returned to the electric guitar-centered style of her debut, bringing with it a more spontaneous approach. Next up was ‘The Golden Heart Protector’ an all-cover collection featuring collaborations with Norah Jones, James Bay, Madison Cunningham, Andrew Bird, Julian Lage and others. The seven-song set was recorded over the course of a weekend in Los Angeles with producer Ryan Lerman.
Her upcoming 4th album, ‘I Am Both‘ emerged from three days of sessions at New York City’s Reservoir Studios, where Glaspy recorded live with drummer/percussionist Jay Bellerose (Bonnie Raitt, Robert Plant, Alison Krauss), keyboardist Patrick Warren (Tracy Chapman, Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen), and bassist Ross Gallagher (Paula Cole, Grails) and produced by Joe Henry (the three-time Grammy-winning singer/songwriter/producer known for his work with luminaries like Aimee Mann and Joan Baez), I Am Both ultimately stands as a striking new statement from one of the modern music canon’s most formidable songwriters
