British Birds

The apocalypse is coming and British Birds are providing the soundtrack. From a dreary northern market town in Lancashire, the mellotrons and moogs reinforce a psychedelic nostalgia and  Elliot Smith cut-deep melodies.

The drums cut like Keith Moon’s poltergeist and the guitars jangle like Harrison’s inner demon.

Grafted from an art-house based in Chorley Lancashire, British Birds hatched via tape loops and cheap nylon stringed guitars, laid by projects such as frontman Bobby’s Cactus Knife and Then Thickens and Ellie’s all girl 3 piece Big Pixie.

British Birds were formed in 2023 after the closure of Bobby’s DIY venue Brock n Broll HQ which hosted acts such as Burger Record’s Boytoy of NYC, max Pain & The Groovies of Salt Lake City, Castrovalva Leeds, Fruit Tones from Manchester and Hannes Ferm of Stockholm. Bobby proceeded to piece together a new space with Screen Printing facilities and a recording studio which is largely built around his love for analogue equipment. This place provided the anvil and hammer to British Birds’ first record “In Search of Mr Rykyn”, a self reflective record with swirling melody, nostalgic sensibility and unshakable melancholy.

British Birds have gained radio play on various stations, with Marc Riley hosting two live sessions on BBC 6 Music half a year apart, Emily Pilbeam added the band’s three latest singles to her monthly BBC 6 Music Mixtape, Louder Than War’s Nathan Whittle gave the album a ⅘ star review, and William Wolstenholme from BBC introducing Lancashire who selected “My Bar” to showcase the band on his BBC Radio 2 live show with Jo Whiley.
