The Chop

Glasgow based husband & wife art-pop duo THE CHOP released their debut album via Wrong Speed records in 2025, a year which also saw them play many shows around Scotland and beyond, bringing these songs into a live context.

An EP follow up on Vancouver’s Lost Sound Tapes came in early 2026 along with a slew of further dates with the likes of Wesley Gonzalez and The Ex.

Inspired by acts such as Young Marble Giants and Old Rottenhat-era Robert Wyatt (as well as a wealth of classic duos such as Dome, Arab Strap, AC Marias, Spike & Debbie and Tender Buttons era Broadcast), Andrew Doig’s brittle bass guitar forms flourish and gently contort beneath Fleet’s always impressive narrative vocalisms, underpinned by primitive drum machine and keyboard accompaniment, creating a sound the duo themselves can’t quite summarize.

The presence of melodica throughout strives to capture a continental melancholy, as well as the kitchen sink melodicism of the Last of the Summer Wine theme tune, complementing their humble and earthy style of post-punk.

The Chop are currently working on a new long player scheduled for 2027.
